| On the reason side, the Vosges is
the cradle of numerous activities : paper
industry, metallurgy, textile, subcontracting for
car makers, wood furniture, food industry and
plastics. It lies equidistant from all the
important European markets. The competitiveness
of its 11,500 companies and 77,000 employees is
expressed in the exported tonnes value, which is
one of the highest in France. The Vosges is
opening out into Europe, thanks to three
motorways crossing the department from North to
South, to a daily air service to Paris, and to
the future staggered lines which will connect
Epinal, Nancy, Remiremont and Saint-Dié with the
High Speed TGV Train. 62 foreign businesses
(coming from the United States, Germany, Japan,
Switzerland and Scandinavia) successfully set up
here over the past few years and do not regret
