For any CEO, industrial expansion also means choosing a site
for future operations. One of the aims of this brochure is to assist
company managers in making this crucial decision and, more
specifically, to show them the excellent opportunities that the
Vosges department has to offer industrial companies.

The Vosges department, located in the Lorraine region, is a major crossroads for all of France and
Europe, providing links to Eastern Europe from Paris-Lille by way of Nancy-Strasbourg and from
Ostende-Rotterdam to Lyon-Marseille and the Mediterranean. In this respect, the Vosges plays
a major role as a logistics complex.

In addition to its widely known touristic attractions, the Vosges also comprises one of the most
dynamic industrial departments. With respect to the total working population, it is second in
France for its percentage of industrial-related jobs. This means that sub-contracting work is
ensured both prior to and after actual production.

More than 2,500 companies, approximately 60 of which are foreign-based, have already chosen
the Vosges as the site for their operations. These include leading French, European, and
µ international firms who presently work in various branches of industry including textile and
clothing, metallurgy, mechanical and electrical engineering, timber and furniture, paper and
cardboard, agricultural, glassmaking and chemical sectors, among others. The area provides
a variety of quality, original training programmes suited to the requirements of virtually every
branch of industry.

Due to its well endowed environment, including extensive forests and rivers, development began
early in the Vosges with the premiers ateliers (initial workshops), the predecessors of today's
forestry, paper and textile firms.

At the dawn of the new millennium, the Vosges continues to celebrate its industrial tradition and
rich resources, which include a qualified workforce, known for its stability and productivity, and
a pleasant environment that provides a positive influence on every aspect of daily life.
