The spinning and
weaving industry accounts for over three-fourths
of Lorraine's total production and nearly half of
all national production for the sector, providing
employment to 11,000 employees from 200 firms.
The
abundance of pure water, perfect for use
in bleaching raw fabrics, encouraged the
first spinning mills to establish
themselves in the area as early as the 18th
century.
