The Vosges department ranks second in France for exports in this highly automated sector with 150 firms employing a total of 7,000 people.

The dairy industry is by far the leader in the Vosges farm-produce sector. The region is home to some of France's major producers of soft and Emmenthal cheeses.







The department's largest turnover is made in mineral water production. Vittel and Contrexeville, the two leading French brands of mineral water, supply 40% of the French market and together are responsible for a major portion of European exports. Nearly 2 billion bottles are produced annually at their unique, environmentally-sound sites.

The Vosges' meat industry, which includes breeding and slaughtering operations, has an annual production figure totalling 40,000 tons.
